‘Goat Testicles Trial’: Parent Basher To Serve 105 hours Community Service

A HARARE man who attacked his parents who are in their 70s as well as his aunt and sister during a row over goat testicles was Friday sentenced to 105 hours community service.

Livingstone Mavhudzi, 46, was convicted for assaulting his 72-year-old mother for dishing away goat testicles to a male neighbour who was also his friend.

Explaining his rage, Mavhuddzi, said what his mother did was a taboo in their culture.

“I felt so degraded and undignified that my mother decided to take the testicles which according to our culture were entitled to me,” said Mavhudzi.

“It’s so belittling that she decided to give them a neighbour who is also my friend. What was that supposed to mean?”

Mavhudzi will do his community service at Kambuzuma Primary School.

Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti ruled that his actions were totally unacceptable, adding his punishment should be stiff enough to deter potential offenders.

Muchuchuti also took into consideration that Mavhudzi was a first offender.

She said community service would make him pay for the community which he wronged.

Mavhudzi however, pleaded with the court to be lenient with him as he was a family man.

The court heard he also assaulted his father, 76, as well as his aunt and sister who intervened to rescue the 72 year old granny.

Mavhudzi said the goat was part of his sister’s lobola adding that, according to their culture, he was the only one entitled to those testicles as he is the only brother.

He denied the charges and told the court he was angry because his mother had belittled him adding that he didn’t lay his hand on her.

He argued that he only confronted his aunt, Martha Mutsvangwa.

Mavhudzi’s mother however, told the court that her son grabbed her by the neck and shook her.

Prosecutors said the incident occurred on October 12 this year. source-newzimbabwe
